Introduction to Informatics Society of Iran.

The Informatics Society of Iran (ISI), is an independent technical and scientific society committed by its constitution to the advancement of computer knowledge in Iran. It is also a nonprofit organization governed by an executive body, elected every two years by members of the Society. ISI is dedicated to the promotion of computer education in society, its correct use, and pursuit of standards. It works with educational centers in the country and consults both industry and government. In many ways ISI's function is similar to the IEEE but at a smaller scale. ISI publishes reports, books, and has a bi-monthly publication, Gozaresh Computer. The Society holds monthly meetings where guest speakers discuss the latest topics in the computer industry. Seminars in the current topics of day are also held for the general public. Some of the recent subjects have been in the areas of Unix, AI, Object-Oriented Databases, and Computer Networks. To become a member, one needs to have a degree in the Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or be a student of these fields. The Society is looking to expand their membership abroad amongst the Iranian professionals and students. The editors of "Gozaresh Computer" encourage individuals who wish to contribute papers to cooperate with the publication. Support in the forms of translations of articles and forwarding of recent journals are also welcome. ISI receives no government funding and is solely supported by membership fees, and contributions. Your support from abroad makes a significant difference in the ability of the Society to serve the public and the country. ISI appreciates the cooperation and support of Iranian Professionals abroad.
