Sepideh,
I'd also like to thank you for a very interesting and enlightening talk. I personally enjoyed it very much and I'm sure others did as well. Please keep us informed on Darvag's future activites and programs.
Regards,
-Siamak
Last night Doreh's guest was Sepideh Koosha, one of the founding members of the Darvag group. Sepideh covered three different topics in her talk: Role of Theatre for the Iranian Community, Commercial vs. non-commercial theatre, and finally the history of the Darvag group and her own activities with Darvag.
Sepideh started with going over some of the recent successes and failures
of different Iranian plays including the phenomenal success of some of the
commercial plays. She tried to analyze some of the subliminal messages
conveyed in these commercial plays. She also pointed to some other recent
commercial plays (mainly from Parviz Kardan and Hadi Khorsandi) that do
carry a positive message and have rich theatrical values. Sepideh explained
the differences between Darvag performances and other theatrical groups
especially the ones originated from Los Angeles. During her talk, Sepideh
answered many different questions ranging from the cultural issues
discussed in her talk to the current situation of the Iranian Cinema!
Overall, her talk was very informative and interesting. At the end, Sepideh
invited all Doreh members to take a more active role and participate in
Darvag performances and help the group grow in their road to new theatrical
experiences for the Iranian community.
Sallam,
Thank you all for your participation in doreh last night. Siamak
really impressed us with his hospitality (complete stone!). Merci :-)
Please see the minutes from Azin below. Foroozan
Bonus Question:
Does anyone from last night remember what the name "Darvag"
means and why the group picked that name???
Thanks for another wonderful doreh.
Answer to the Bonus question (if it is not a trick question),
Correct me if I am wrong:
Darvag is a kind of frog that lives in the tree and give 'naveed'
for upcoming rain (it brings the news that it is going to rain)
Darvag has chosen this name to say that our group does not bring the
rain itself but it brings the news that it is going the rain.
This rain could be a symbol for an upcoming good news, a revolution
or a change in a good sense (my own interpretation)
Thanks and see you in next doreh

What: Doreh Meeting
Ham Doreh-An,
At the next Doreh meeting, on Thursday June 20th, Sepideh Koosha, will talk
about the "Role of Theatre for the Iranian Community."
Also, for those who do not mind staying late after the normal program,
I'll have a late night theatrical video treat: "Othello in the Land of
Wonders", the last play of the late playwright, Gholam-Hossein Sa'edi.
The video quality is not that great, but the content compensates for it.
For those who may not be familiar with Sa'edi's works, there is a translation
of some of his short stories, "Dandil: Stories from Iranian Life," published
by Random House, New York, 1981.

-Siamak
