The Path to Personal Growth

From kourosh

DorehvandAneh mohtaram,

Rumor has it that we have another doreh session coming up pretty soon. Unlike most rumors, this one happens to be correct! We are set for Tuesday, June 27th somewhere in Fremont (exactly where, is still being worked on....we're in the middle of "suggestive volunteering" procedure!) Our guest will be Dr. Mona Afari. As you recall, during her first presentation in doreh as a guest speaker several months ago, Dr. Afari sparked very interesting discussions on relationships which carried on for days!! The upcoming talk promises to be as intriguing and thought provoking, if not more...We expect attendance to be high. So come early (once you find out where to go!) and get good seats :)

I asked Dr. Afari to send me an introductory paragraph about her talk. She's kindly done so, but it's all written in Farsi! So I'm going to take a stab at translating this introduction and skip all the words that I don't understand!

shAd bAsheed,

ka.

The Path to Personal Growth

During our lifetime, we have all witnessed many events and encountered many situations which have helped in forming our personalities and shaping the path for our personal growth. As we go through our everyday lives, sometimes we find ourselves facing very difficult circumstances. In dealing with these sort of situations, some of us may realize that our inner self, our personality, is not what we have thought it to be. There are times when we desperately need to be able to rely on our inner self and strength to get us through. Unfortunately, these are also the times when we make unpleasant discoveries about confilicts and weaknesses in our personality and related mental and emotional problems.

In our next discussion, we will focus on these issues and will try to approach them from a psychological ponit of view. It is hoped that in going through this group discussion, we will clarify certain points and answer certain questions which may prove useful in helping us with our personal growth and in taking a step towards that ideal personality we are striving for.

Dr. Mona Afari
