The Rise and Fall of the Thirsd Reich

The speaker of this thursday is Behnam Mahjour. His generosity goes beyond volunteering to talk; he offered his house too :) I also wanted to thank Ramin for his efforts in scheduling places for doreh. Fariba, Kourosh and I really appriciate the group's "mosAedat va hamkAri". You can be sure that it will be rewarded (can't guarantee it in this life though)!
Before I give you a brief overview of this thursday's talk, I have a message to give to all dorehees. Dr. Ali Abedin has invited all of us again to participate in his TV program "khod AshenAi". They will be recording the program on Sunday Feburary 13th at 3:00 pm. He would like to have people aging between 20 to 40 years old to participate in the program. The topic will be on "The Young Iranian Immigrant's Issues". Dr. Mona Afari and Dr. Ali Abedin will host the program and will answer any questions the audience may have. The input from the audience at home from his last show was very encouraging. If you are interested please call Nima Television at: (510)490-NIMA for directions and more details. I have invited Dr. Abedin to appear in Doreh this thursday.
Now, back to the original topic. Here's what Behnam has to say about it:
"The talk this Thursday will be about WW II (The Rise and Fall of the Thirsd Reich). Please note that I will try to prepare a detailed discussion (with specific dates) but might not be able to. The important thing is that the exactl dates of events are not as importatnt as reminding/discussing the implementation, strategy used, implications and so on and the effects of that 50-year-old event on our today's lives.
The talk will start at 8:00. Please be there before 8:00 to get the best seats :) Directions follow.

Last night we listened to Behnam's excellent presentation on WWII. Behnam revealed some of the unknowns on Hitler's personality as he grew up to be the most powerful military leader or criminal! in the history. Hitler's desire to become the number one man in the universe was accented by his great power of speech and leadership ability. When he formed his party there were only 4 members. By the time he ruled Germany (1933) his party had hundred's of thousands members.
He had utilized the army between 1933-1938 which in tern created jobs and industrialized Germany. Hitler's ambitious towards invasion of his neighboring countries started with Poland's occupation. He had a great appetite for France, Denmark, Norway and successfully invaded those countries. England stood up and defended itself. So did Russia! At this point Hitler's had made his biggest mistake which was fighting in the cold with Russians!!
Behnam used alot of references such as: "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William Shier and "The Nightmare Year". Behnam's presentation skills is one of a kind! But he is a truly kind man! :) We still don't know why Switzerland did not get involved in the war?? (According to "Poonez theory" there was a poonez over Switzerland on Hitler's map! :-)
There is also a documentary/movie on one of the books, I think it's on "The Nightmare Years". If there is enough interest we can show it in one of doreh movie nights.
Finally, thanks to Behnam for his generous hospitality and great presentation. We owe him a mug! :)
